Once again, revising my question.
Background information: I am currently a sophomore in high school, looking to my feet wet in the field of photography. I’ve been taking pictures since I was in the 6th grade. I got my first digital camera in the 7th grade, before that I used my parents. In the beginning, I took pictures of my friends and family members. Once I got my own camera, I started taking some pictures of nature and some portraits, as well as continuing to take pictures of family and friends. Now I am going to be purchasing my first DSLR: a Canon t2i. I know multiple who have and adore this camera. I’ve used the camera and I really like the feel of it.
What it’d be used for: I’d mainly be using this for photos of friends and family. I’d also be taking nature shots, and I’d take a fair amount of portraits. I’d be doing some video on this as well. I’d also be using this to take photos at school assemblies, performances, shows and musicals, where flash is not permitted and the only lights are on the stage.
My question: My budget is 0. With the deal I got, the canon t2i with a 18-55mm lens cost 0. I am wondering what would be the best thing to purchase along with the camera. The options are:
-Another lens. I think the lenses I like the best in my budget are the 55-250mm or the 50mm f/1.8. If you think I should do this, please indicate which lens to buy.
-An extra battery for extremely long use, a nicer camera case and a larger memory card. (i have 8GB now)
-An underwater basic point and shot camera, so that if I go to the beach I could take a camera. If you think I should do this, please give me advice as to which one.
This is an underwater video of seven (at least) humpback whales I videoed in Moorea French Polynesia on Sept 13, 2006. They were within 40 ft of us while we snorkeled with them, they were all about 50 ft long or so. The water depth was 400+ ft. I used the Olympus 720 waterproof digital camera. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to swim with these awesome cetaceans, which oddly seemed very interested in deeply circling our small white-bottomed boat. You can hear the whale noises in the background.
Does anyone know why an underwater camera (eg Olympus Tough) can be used underwater for only one hour? Is it because it will get too cold after that or something? In which case, doesn’t the temperature of the water make a difference?
Camera Guy – it’s an Olympus Tough 3000 …
deep blue2 – thanks a million, so it’s the seals … wanted to give you a thumbs up or something but it seems i’m not allowed (first time i’ve used this system)

I am about to move to the Cayman Islands, and was wondering if anyone out there has experience with taking photos underwater. I have a nice digital camera and a cheap film camera, and have been looking at various waterproof cases. I would love to hear any tips, ideas, etc. that you may have.
Ive been wanting to spearfish for a while now and I want to be able to take pictures and maybe some videos underwater. Whats the best digital camera I can get for around 0 thats good for underwater stuff?
Diy underwater camera housing for digital camera made from a plastic container and some sheet plastic ..The heating of the plastic should be done outside with alot of ventilation. (bad Fumes)
